The Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden has announced the cancellation of Dmitri Shostakovich’s opera “Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk” on Oct. 10, 2020 due to the confirmed COVID-19 cases in the technical department of the theater.

Per an official statement on the opera house’s website, two of the employees of the technical department were tested independently of each other for COVID-19 by their general practitioners. The Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden has immediately initiated all the necessary measures to trace the infection chains, per the health authorities’ instructions. All the contact persons were subsequently tested for COVID-19, and all the tests have so far been negative.

For safety reasons, the health authorities in Wiesbaden and Mainz have nevertheless placed a large number of employees in quarantine at home. The resulting shortage of staff forced the Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden to cancel “Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk” at short notice.
