The Bilbao Opera is set to present Wagner’s “Tristan und Isolde” for the third time in the company’s history.

The performances come 13 years after the company last performed the famed work and will be shown on Jan. 18, 21, 24, and 27 at the Euskalduna Bilbao.

The opera will star Gwyn Hughes Jones and Oksana Dyka in the title roles alongside Marko Mimica as König Marke, Egils Silins as Kurwenal, Carlos Daza as Melot, and Daniela Barcellona in her role debut as Brangäne. Erik Nielsen conducts the production Allex Agulera.

In a statement, Aguilera said, “Tristan und Isolde is an opera that transcends conventional narrative to become a sublime meditation on absolute love, its unattainable plenitude, and its inherent tragedy. This work does not offer definitive answers, but rather an experience that must be lived. It is a journey that invites you to surrender to its infinite melodic flow, where love and death dialogue in a sublime and heartbreaking balance.
