Sarah Tynan has been announced as the new Head of Vocal Arts at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama. She commences her tenure in September 2024.

Tynan has enjoyed an ample performance career as a singer, performing with such organizations as the English National Opera, Aldeburgh Festival, Teatro Real de Madrid, Opera Holland Park, Royal Danish Opera, Bolshoi Theatre, and Opera North, among many others. She was also nominated by the Evening Standard as one of the most influential artists in UK music and has also served as a private voice teacher at the Royal College of Music.

“I am delighted to be joining Guildhall School of Music & Drama in the newly created position of Head of Vocal Arts. The opportunity to lead this outstanding vocal faculty and help build upon its strengths, while looking to the future and the challenges of the rapidly changing industry, is both an honour and a privilege,” Tynan said in an official press statement.

“It is exciting to open a new chapter in Guildhall School’s vocal training by welcoming Sarah Tynan as Head of Vocal Arts,” added Armin Zanner, the Vice-Principal and Director of Music at Guildhall School. “This new position brings together our Vocal and Opera Studies areas under a Vocal Arts umbrella with the goal of maximising opportunities for connection across our vocal performance activity. Sarah has the vision, the knowledge of the industry, the breadth of musical expertise and the depth of stage experience that this role demands, and I’m thrilled that she will be overseeing our evolving Vocal Arts offer, working in close collaboration with our Head of Opera, Dominic Wheeler, and Deputy Head of Vocal Studies, Samantha Malk. I am looking forward to introducing Sarah to our students and staff in the new academic year.”
