Greek National Opera Announces Cast Change for ‘Turandot’
By Francisco SalazarThe Greek National Opera has announced a cast change for its production of “Turandot.”
The company said that”the role of Calaf in the first cast of ‘Turandot’ on June 1, 5, 8 at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus will be performed by the renowned American tenor Brian Jagde, who will be replacing Arsen Soghomonyan.”
Jagde was originally set to perform “The Queen of Spades” at the Metropolitan Opera, but canceled due to scheduling conflicts that did not allow him to learn the role. Soghomonyan will instead sing Tchaikovsky’s work, which he has performed to great acclaim.
Jagde, who will make his Greek National Opera debut, has performed the role of Calaf at the San Francisco Opera, Paris Opera, the Teatro alla Scala, and the Royal Opera House.
He will join a cast that includes Lise Lindstrom, Tassos Apostolou, and Cellia Costea. Pier Giorgio Morandi conducts the production by Andrei Şerban.
