The Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona will present “7 Deaths of Maria Callas” in 2023.

The news was announced during the exposition “Portraits as Biography” in Madrid.

The opera made its world premiere at the Bayerische Staatsoper and has been performed at the Paris Opera. The work, which features the vision of Marina Abramovic and also stars Willem Dafoe, will be seen at the Teatro San Carlo di Napoli later this season.

The recent news from the Liceu comes after the Spanish company announced it was presenting the European premiere of John Adams’ “Anthony and Cleopatra” during the 2023-24 season.

This season the Liceu is celebrating its 175th anniversary and is set to present a revival of Debussy’s “Pelléas et Mélisande.”
