Applications for the 2024-25 Götz Friedrich Prize of the Deutsche Oper Berlin for directing works are open.

The prize will be awarded to new German-language productions that premiered in public or private theatre in the 2024/25 season. Participating directors must be under the age of 35. Applications should include the director’s curriculum vitae, the name of the staged work, the dates of the performances and a brief description of the production’s concept. Applications are also open to theatres.

This year’s jury consists of Dietmar Schwarz, director of the Deutsche Oper Berlin, Jörg Königsdorf, head dramaturg of the Deutsche Oper Berlin, Dorothea Hartmann, director of the Staatstheater Wiesbaden, Lotte de Beer, director of the Wiener Volksoper, Beate Breidenbach, dramaturg of the Opernhaus Zürich, and Wolfgang Nägele, in-house director of the Theater Bielefeld.

For over twenty years, the Götz Friedrich Prize has recognized and promoted outstanding talent in the field of music theatre directing. Past winners include Stefan Herheim, Nadja Loschky, and Sebastian Baumgarten. Lisenka Heijboer Castañón’s production “The Gospel According to the Other Mary” took home last year’s prize.
