Göteborg Opera Announces 2021-22 Season Featuring Vassilis Kavayas, Daniel Brenna & Katarina Karnéus

The Göteborg Opera in Sweden has announced its 2021-22 season, which will include five opera productions.

First up will be Rossini’s “Il Barbiere di Siviglia” starring Vassilis Kavayas, Markus Schwartz, Ann-Kristin Jones, Hannes Öberg, Mats Almgren, and Mia Karlsson, among others. Rodula Gaitanou directs while Ville Matvejeff conducts.

Performance Dates: August 29 – Oct. 2, 2021

Carolina Sandgren headlines “Tosca” in a production by Lorenzo Marini. Ramón Tebar conducts a cast that includes Tomas Lind, Mats Persson, Erik Rosenius, and Anders Lorentzson, among others.

Performance Dates: Sept. 10 – Oct. 20, 2021

Stephen Landgridge directs “Götterdämmerung.” Daniel Brenna headlines the opera and is joined by Mats Persson, Mats Almgren, Ólafur Sigurdarson, and AnnLouice Lögdlund. Evan Rogister conducts.

Performance Dates: Dec. 5, 2021 – Jan. 9, 2022

Henrik Schaefer will conduct “Let the Voice Be Heard,” which includes music by Thea Musgrave, Cécile Chaminade, Dora Pejačević, Elfrida Andrée, and Dame Ethel Smyth. Mezzo-soprano Katarina Karnéus and soprano Sofie Asplund headline the concert alongside oboist Geoffrey Cox.

Performance Date: Oct. 14, 2021  

The company will present Offenbach’s operetta “Champagne Tears” which will star Ake Zetterström, Carolina Sandgren, and Ingahlill Wagelin.

Performance Dates: Jan. 29 – March 12, 2022 

The company will present Nyström’s “Herr Arnes Pennigar” with a cast to be announced at a later date.

Performance Dates: Feb. 19 – March 13, 2022

The company will present “Rigoletto.” Cast to be announced at a later date.

Performance Date: April 14- May 29, 2022 

Donizetti’s “Viva La Mamma” will also be presented with a cast set to be announced at a later date.

Performance Dates: May 7 – June 10, 2022

Schönberg’s “Pierrot Lunaire” will star Kerstin Avemo.
