‘Good Country’ To be Featured During Cohen New Works Festival

By David Salazar

The University of Texas at Austin is set to workshop “Good Country,” a new opera that narrates the story of Charley Parkhurst, a trans stagecoach driver during the California Gold Rush.

The workshop is set for April 15 and 16, 2019 at the Lab Theatre. The opera was written by librettist Cecelia Raker and composer Keith Allegretti and will star tenor Holden Madagame, who is also a trans activist. “Good Country” will be directed by Alice Stanley. The work is being presented as part of the Cohen New Works Festival.

The opera’s producers have launched an Indiegogo campaign to fund the workshop production of “Good Country.” Find out more here.
