Gerda Lissner Foundation Unveils 2023 Lieder / Song Competition Winners

The Gerda Lissner Foundation has announced the winners of its 2023 Lieder / Song Vocal Competition.

The first prize went to mezzo-soprano Maire Therese Carmack, who takes home $7,000. In second place was soprano Gemma Nha; she will receive a $5,000 cash prize. Mezzo-soprano Anna Kelly rounded out the top three and will get a $3,000 cash prize.

Other grant winners, each receiving $1,000, include Sarah Fleiss, Shan Hai, Titus Muzi III, Dongwei Shen, and Tivoli Treloar. The winners of the Encouragement award, which comes with a $500 prize each, are Nicoletta Berr, Christine E. Byrne, Sydney Dardis, Giorgi Guliashvili, Trevor Haunschilt-Rocha, Minki Hong, Keith Klein, and Tristan Tournaud.

“We were incredibly impressed by the talent of all the singers who participated in this year’s competition, and awarded $24,000 to 16 finalists chosen from 151 applicants,” said Michael A. Fornabaio, The Gerda Lissner Foundation’s President, in an official press statement. “We are excited to see what the future holds for all of this year’s contestants.”

Jury members for this year’s competition include Ken Benson, Lorraine DiSimone, Warren Jones, Rebecca Jo Loeb, and Midge Woolsey.
