Gasometer to Open in Stockholm

By Afton Markay

The new Gasometer in Stockholm announces its opening and upcoming performances.

The new pillar-free theatre and dome housed inside the historic 1899 gasholder is set to open on March 17, 2027. The venue is designed for concerts, operas, performing arts, and large-scale live productions.

The opening program runs across four consecutive nights and is built around four acts. Composer Jacob Mühlrad and artist and creative director Alexander Wessely are planning a program at the intersection of classical and contemporary music and visual art, specially made for the venue.

Already on the Gasometer’s docket is The Royal Swedish Opera’s next five seasons. The opera Company plans to temporarily use the venue during the House’s renovations.

“With the inauguration of the Gasometer, we are not simply opening a new venue; we
are establishing a new benchmark for live entertainment in Europe,” says Julien Planté, Head of Entertainment at Miramis, in a press release.
