Garsington Opera has announced the recipients of its 2026 awards.

The awards, which recognize exceptional artistic and creative contributions across the festival season, are presented annually to celebrate the next generation of operatic talent while providing financial support to help recipients further their careers.

The awards were presented on July 20 by Artistic Director Douglas Boyd and Executive Director Ben Weston.

“I am delighted to present these awards on behalf of Garsington Opera,” Boyd said, per an official press release. “All recipients have excelled to the highest standards that have been a hallmark of this season’s festival. They have demonstrated extraordinary quality both on and off the stage, distinguished themselves as wonderful colleagues and given us all hope for a bright future for this art form. It’s been a pleasure to work alongside them, and I am delighted that Garsington Opera can help further their careers.”

The Leonard Ingrams Award, given in recognition of outstanding talent, was presented to Seán Boylan, who played Algernon Moncrieff in “The Importance of Being Earnest.”

The Garsington Chorus and Ensemble Awards, recognizing professional and personal contributions during the season, went to three artists.

Will Prior received the Helen Clarke Award for his performances in “Il ritorno d’Ulisse,” in which he sang the roles of Nereidi, Sirene, Feaci and Naiadi and covered L’Humana fragiltà and Pisandro.

The Simon Sandbach Award was presented to Ana-Carmen Balestra, who portrayed the Noble Daughter in “Der Rosenkavalier” and covered Cecily Cardew in “The Importance of Being Earnest.” Alfred Mitchell also received the role. He played Faninal’s major domo in “Der Rosenkavalier” and covered Valzacchi in that production as well as Iro in “Il ritorno d’Ulisse.”

The Nicky Creed Award, given for a significant contribution to the season on or off the stage, was presented to Molly Owen, who served as Trainee Assistant Director on “Der Rosenkavalier” and “The Importance of Being Earnest.”
