Francesco Meli & Riccardo Frizza Headline ‘Uniti per Verdi’ Gala

By Francisco Salazar

On November 21, the Società del Quartetto di Milano and international opera singers will present “Uniti per Verdi,” an event to save Sant Agata, Verdi’s home.

The gala, which was organized by Ricardo Frizza and Francesco Meli will also feature Eleonora Buratto, Massimo Cavalletti, Roberto de Candia, Chiara Isotton, Roberta Mantegna, Caterina Piva, Piero Pretti, Annalisa Stroppa, Riccardo Zanellato, and an orchestra composed of musicians from the various Lyric Symphony Orchestras. Admission will be free for the entire audience and none of the artists will be remunerated for their participation in the gala.

The concert will help raise more attention in Italy to the case of Villa Verdi in Sant’Agata, the residence of composer Giuseppe Verdi, where he composed some of the most unforgettable pages of the Italian operatic repertoire. Following family diatribes, the house has been closed to the public and is set to be auctioned off.

The episode is symbolic of the fragility of the Italian cultural system that has stirred artists and the music world. The evening will be held at the Teatro Lirico di Milano and will be streamed via the corriere.it.
