
Fortunato Ortombina Announces New Projects for the Teatro Alla Scala in 2028

A new era for the Teatro alla Scala has begun under Fortunato Ortombina.
The new superintendent took over this week following Dominque Meyer’s departure and has already announced plans for the legendary theater.
According to Italian news outlets, Ortombina has announced a series of events for the company’s 250th anniversary in 2028. The projects include city events as well as a newly commissioned opera. La Scala will also tour around Europe and Otrombina has also promised a wide variety of repertoire from baroque to contemporary.
The Teatro alla Scala has announced Fortunato Ortombina as its General Director in April 2024. He previously served as coordinator of the theater’s artistic direction from 2003-2007 before becoming the artistic director at La Fenice. In 2017, he took over as general director of La Fenice.
