Fort Worth Opera to Launch ‘Music, Memory, and More’ Series for Those with Dementia

By Logan Martell

Fort Worth Opera has announced a new partnership with Dementia Friendly Fort Worth and the United Way Area Agency on Aging in Texas.

Together, they will launch “Music, Memory, and More,” a seven-week series that is designed to engage individuals living with dementia in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. The performances will feature guest artists from Fort Worth Opera, as well as their Lesley Resident Artists.

Each event’s performance will be followed by an interactive activity specifically designed for those with dementia. The series, hosted by FWO Manager of Education and Community Engagement Sheran Goodspeed Keyton, will see the guest presenter guide participants through activities which engage aspects such as movement, music therapy, call and response interaction, and socialization.

Supported in part by a special grant from the Texas Commission of the Art, “Music, Memory, and More,” will run March 30, April 8, 22, May 13, 27, and June 10, 15, 2021. Each recording will also be available to watch for free via Fort Worth Opera and Dementia Friendly Fort Worth’s YouTube channels for thirty days after each session.
