Fort Worth Opera Launches ‘FWO Go’ Concerts, Readies for Community Food Drive with ‘Stone Soup’

By Logan Martell

Fort Worth Opera has announced a number of new community initiatives for audiences in the region.

The first is the launch of “FWO GO,” a new series of pop-up performances to be held in neighborhoods throughout Dallas and Fort Worth, Texas. Beginning on October 24, the company’s Lesley Resident Artists will perform opera, musical theatre, and American standards, from a flatbed trailer pulled by a pick-up truck. The first performance will be held through Tarrant County, with upcoming locations to be announced on FWO’s social media pages.

On November 3, FWO artists will appear at polling locations in Fort Worth for “Voices for Votes,” a series of mini-concerts meant to encourage civic engagement on Election Day.

The following weekend, FWO will partner up with the Tarrant Area Food Bank for a community food drive which will also see two performances of the new children’s opera “Stone Soup.” Written by Artistic Director Joe Illick and librettist Mark Campbell, this work is set during the Great Depression and follows a young girl named Sally as she helps the townspeople learn about sharing and cooperation.
