
Florida Grand Opera to Present ‘Opera Meets Reggae’
By Afton Markay“Opera Meets Reggae 2.0: Hit Me With Music,” will take place as part of the Florida Grand Opera’s Innovation Hub.
Following the success of last year’s concert,”Hit Me With Music” continues to explore the surprising commonalities between opera and reggae, blending powerful storytelling, rich vocal traditions, and infectious rhythms into an unforgettable night of music.
Sopranos Sydney Dardis and Mary Burke Barber, mezzo-soprano Monique Galvão, tenor James Mancuso, baritone Andrew Payne, and bass-baritone Phillip Lopez star in the concert. They are accompanied by Jared Peroune at the piano and Hal “Reggae Man” Anthony and Friends band. Neil Nelson serves as emcee.
The audience will hear a mix of traditional reggae, beloved opera arias, and innovative fusion pieces that bring the two genres together.
This free family-friendly event takes place on March 16, at the Miami Beach Bandshell, in partnership with the Rhythm Foundation and the City of Miami Beach. The concert begins at 7 pm.
