Florida Grand Opera Announces Sunday Matinee

By Francisco Salazar

The Florida Grand Opera has announced a “Sunday Matinee” program.

In a press release, Susan T. Danis, FGO General Director and CEO said, “We are excited to be in our third month of our FGO GO initiative; delivering opera to our audiences at home. We hope that everyone has enjoyed coming together virtually during the time we cannot be together in the theater sharing our love of opera.”

The #SundayMatinee series is being presented with the cooperation of AGMA, IATSE, and USA. Each opera will be premiering “live” on YouTube, which will allow the company to create the FGO Go-Live Opera Chat. Audience members will be allowed to converse about the work as it is being presented.

The company began June by celebrating Pride Month with Jorge Martín’s “Before Night Falls,” an opera based on the memoir of dissident Cuban poet and gay activist, Reinaldo Arenas. The opera will be available through June 7.

On June 7 at 2:00 p.m. EST, FGO will release Verdi’s “Nabucco,” which will be available until June 14.

The Sunday matinee series will continue into July and can be seen on the company’s YouTube page.
