
First Marina Zirdziņa International Vocal Competition Launches, Announces Schedule
By David SalazarLatvia’s Operetta Theatre and the Marina Zirdziņa Family have launched the first-ever Marina Zirdziņa International Vocal Competition.
The competition will showcase the talents of young artists across several categories – operetta, musical theatre, opera, solo, and duets. The competition opened for submissions on April 1 with vocalists aged 18-35 allowed to submit a video up until May 31, 2025. From there, a second round will take place on August 12, 2025 at the Great Hall of the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music in Latvia with Gregory Buchalter conducting the Symphony Orchestra of the Operetta Theatre.
This year’s competition will feature two rounds with an international jury comprised of Deividas Staponkus (Lithuania), Heli Veskus (Estonia), Sonora Vaice (Latvia), and Gregory Buchalter (USA).
Winners will receive prizes of up to € 8,000.00 as well as performance opportunities.
Zirdziņa was a renowned operetta diva from Latvia.
