Festival della Valle d’Itria Announces 2020 Season

The Festival della Valle d’Itria in Martina Franca has announced its 46th season.

The festival is slated to take place between July 14 and August 2, 2020 and once again looks at rarely performed works and rediscovered works. Here is a look at this year’s programming.

The first opera in the season will be Mercadante’s “La rappresaglia,” a comic melodrama in two acts. Michele Spotti conducts a critical edition by Francesco Lora and Elisabetta Pasquini. Davide Gasparro directs the production, which will also feature the Orchestra del Teatro Petruzzelli di Bari and will be performed at the Palazzo Ducale.

Performance Dates: July 14-29, 2020

Wolf-Ferrari’s “Gli amanti sposi” will be showcased with Fabio Luisi, conducting at the Palazzo Ducale. The opera in three acts will be directed by Walter Pagliaro with the Orchestra del Teatro Petruzzelli di Bari also featured.

Performance Dates: July 19-August 1, 2020

The third opera will be Ferdinando Paër’s “Leonora” conducted by George Petrou and directed by Andrea Chiodi. The opera was picked as a celebration of Beethoven’s 250th anniversary as it proceeds Beethoven’s more famous “Fidelio.”

Performance Dates: July 25-31, 2020
