The Festival de Teatro Lírico Español de Oviedo has announced two cast changes for its upcoming production of Manuel de Falla’s “La Vida Breve.”

First, soprano Virginia Tola will replace Ainhoa Arteta, who tested positive for COVID-19 and is still recovering. Additionally, mezzo-soprano Cristina Faus will replace María Luisa Corbacho, who has also tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

Tola and Faus will join the cast that includes Francesco Pio Galasso, Ruben Amoretti, Anna Gomà, Gerardo Bullón, Jesús Méndez, and Gustavo Peña. Iván López Reynoso conducts the production by Giancarlo del Monaco.

Virginia Tola recently performed the role of Stella and Antonia in Offenbach’s “Les Contes d’Hoffmann” at the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, and the title role in Puccini’s “Tosca” at L’Opéra Royal de Wallonie – Liège, among others.

Cristina Faus just finished a run of Gonzalo Roig’s “Cecilia Valdés” at Teatro de la Zarzuela, where she interpreted the role of Isabel.

Performances are scheduled for Feb. 25 & Feb. 27, 2021.
