Experiments in Opera to World Premiere ‘Five Ways to Die’

By Francisco Salazar

Experiments in Opera is set to present a world premiere production of its new opera, “Five Ways to Die,” at HERE from June 27-30, 2024.

The work will feature a chamber ensemble of five instrumentalists and a cast of six singers in four short, interconnected stories featuring secrets, serial killers, magical portals and of course, death.

“Five Ways to Die” was written and composed by artists in Experiments in Opera’s critically-acclaimed Writers’ Room, a regularly-occurring program for composers and librettists that Experiments in Opera began in 2019.

Among the works are “Mischief (or Rathattan)” by Britt Hewitt and Jesse Gelaznik, “Valhalla Valley Mall” by Jason Cady, “Water Prayer” by Marcella Murray and Seong Ae Kim, and “Serials Killers and The City” by Joanie Brittingham and Del’Shawn Taylor.

The soloists are Alize Francheska Rozsnyai, Rose Hegele, Melisa Luna Bonetti, Lisa Neher, Kannan Vasudevan, and Seth Gilman. Shannon Sindelar directs the production and Dmitriy Glivinskiy conducts.
