Eva Marton & Franz Welser-Möst Among Kennedy Center Gold Medal Recipients

The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts has announced the recipients of the Kennedy Center International Committee on the Arts Gold Medal in the Arts.

This year, the awards will be handed to performers and arts leaders in their respective international communities. Among this year’s recipients are conductors Ádám Fischer and Ivan Fischer; composer and pianist György Kurtág; soprano Eva Marton, as well as composer Iván Eröd, Salzburg Festival President Helga Rabl-Stadler, award-winning actor Christoph Waltz, and Cleveland Orchestra music director Franz Welser-Möst.

In a press statement states Kennedy Center President Deborah F. Rutter. said, “Each year, we present the Kennedy Center Gold Medal in the Arts to creative leaders who have made indelible marks on the international arts world and have inspired generations of artists around the globe. It is an honor to recognize this year’s exceptional group of Hungarian and Austrian artists and arts leaders.”

Since 2005, the Kennedy Center International Committee on the Arts has bestowed Gold Medals in the Arts in recognition of extraordinary achievement in the arts each year at its international summit.

Past recipients include Valery Gergiev, Plácido Domingo, and Renato Bruson, among many others.

The awards were given on June 18 at in Budapest at the U.S. Ambassador’s Residence, and June 21 in Vienna at The Albertina Museum.
