Eun Sun Kim & Daniela Mack Lead Beethoven & Falla Concert
By Francisco SalazarCaroline H. Hume Music Director, Eun Sun Kim is set to lead the San Francisco Opera Orchestra in a Beethoven and Falla program.
Kim will be joined by mezzo-soprano Daniela Mack in a one-night-only concert on Nov. 1, 2025 at the War Memorial Opera House.
Mack will perform Manuel de Falla’s songs “Siete Canciones Populares Españolas.” The concert will also feature Falla’s ballet “El Sombrero de Tres Picos” and Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony, which premiered in 1808.
In a statement, Kim said, “The San Francisco Opera Orchestra and I customarily work together in the orchestra pit, but these musicians, due to their vast experience, can also command the stage. In our fall concert, the Orchestra will do just that in Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony. We will also perform music by Manuel de Falla who across national and language barriers absorbed Beethoven’s influence, even citing the famous ‘fate’ motif from the Fifth Symphony in his ballet. Falla’s lovely song cycle will feature the beautiful voice of Daniela Mack.”
Mack is well-known for her performances of Spanish-language works and starred in San Francisco Opera’s first Spanish-language opera, Gabriela Lena Frank and Nilo Cruz’s “El último sueño de Frida y Diego.” She reprises the opera at the Lyric Opera of Chicago.
