Eugene Opera Announces Return of ‘Opera is Instrumental ‘ Program
By David SalazarOregon’s Eugene Opera and Eugene-Springfield Youth Orchestras (ESYO) are teaming up once again to present “Opera is Instrumental,” a new initiative that offers young musicians an opportunity to perform alongside opera singers.
The program this year will offer rehearsals of “Rigoletto” with such artists as Véronique Filloux and Bernard Holcomb. The company is set to present “Rigoletto” starting on Jan. 31 and running through Feb. 2 with Grant Youngblood headlining alongside Fillux and Holcomb. Fenlon Lamb directs the opera and Andrew Bisantz conducts.
“We feel grateful to live in a community that embraces the performing arts,” said Cynthia Stenger Riplinger, Executive Director of ESYO, in an official press release. “Our Youth Symphony musicians benefit greatly from this special chance to learn from Maestro Bisantz and accompany the inspiring voices of the Eugene Opera’s ‘Rigoletto’ soloists.”
The program was piloted in 2020 and has become a major part of Eugene Opera’s outreach initiatives.
