English National Opera to Present New Production of ‘The Cunning Little Vixen’

The English National Opera is set to present a new production Janáček’s “The Cunning Little Vixen.”

The production, which opens on Feb. 18, will be directed by Jamie Manton, who noted, “I am delighted to be back at the ENO, directing this sensational opera alongside the most exciting collective of talent. This piece couldn’t be more timely, capturing what it means to feel alive and the importance of our role within life’s vibrant community.”

ENO Music Director Martyn Brabbins conducts the work which is set to star Pumeza Matshikiza. Lester Lynch, Madeleine Shaw, Alan Oke, Clive Bayley, Ossian Huskinson, John Findon, Gweneth-Ann Rand, Claire Barnett-Jones, Alexandra Oomens, and Ffion Edwards.

They will be joined by four adolescent roles, cast via ENO Engage’s  Opera Squad partner secondary schools and youth program. Completing the cast are 20 children singing the roles of the Vixen’s fox cubs and other woodland creatures.

“The Cunning Little Vixen” will be performed six times at the London Coliseum with a relaxed performance, conducted by ENO Mackerras Fellow Olivia Clarke on Feb. 26, 2022.
