Emily Magee, Klaus Florian Vogt & Andris Nelsons Highlight Gewandhaus Leipzig’s 2020-21 Season

The Gewandhaus Leipzig has announced its 2020-21 season. Here is a look at the vocal performances that will featured throughout the season.

Gotthold Schwarz conducts Bach’s Weihnachts-Oratorium with soloists Mojca Erdmann, Elvira Bill, Julian Prégardien, Martin Lattke, and Klaus Mertens.

Performance Dates: Dec. 11-13, 2020

Andris Nelsons conducts Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis with soloists Amanda Majeski, Mihoko Fujimura, Klaus Florian Vogt, and James Rutherford.

Performance Dates: Dec. 17-18, 2020

Andris Nelsons leads Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 with soloists Amanda Majeski, Mihoko Fujimura, Klaus Florian Vogt, and James Rutherford.

Performance Dates: Dec 29-31, 2020

Miloslav Kabeláč’s Mysterium času and Leoš Janáček’s Glagolitische Messe are set to be performed by Semyon Bychkov conducting soloists Rachel Willis-Sørensen, Elisabeth Kulman, Norbert Ernst, Jan Martiník, and Michael Schönheit.

Performance Dates: Jan. 14-17, 2021

Emily Magee sings Wagner’s Wesendonck Lieder with Andris Nelsons conducting. The performance will also include Bruckner’s Symphony No. 7.

Performance Dates: Jan. 31, 2021

Andris Nelsons conducts Wagner’s Vorspiel and Isolde’s Liebestod from “Tristan und Isolde” with soloist Emily Magee. Bruckner’s Symphony No. 9 is also included in the program.

Performance Dates: Feb. 7, 2021

Regula Mühlemann, Benno Schachtner, Maximilian Schmitt, Andreas Weller, Thomas E. Bauer, and Matthias Goerne sing Bach’s St. John’s Passion with Gotthold Schwarz conducting.

Performance Dates: April 1 & 2, 2021

Weber’s “Die drei Pintos” is set to be performed in a semi-staged performance with Johannes Erath. Omer Meir Wellber conducts the performance with soloists Yorck Felix Speer, Viktorija Kaminskaite, Maximilian Schmitt, Annelie Sophie Müller, Martin Mitterrutzner, Franz Hawlata, and Krešimir Stražanac.

Performance Dates: April 22-25, 2021

Philippe Herreweghe conducts Berit Norbakken, Alex Potter, Guy Cutting, and Tobias Berndt in a program of music by Mendelssohn, Bach, and Stravinsky.

Performance Dates: June 17 & 18, 2021

 

 

On Tour 

Emily Magee and the Gewndhaus Orchester with Andris Nelsons perform two different programs with music by Wagner and Bruckner.

Performance Dates: Feb. 15-March 5 at Southbank Centre, Musikverein Wien, Suntory Hall, Daegu Concert, and Seoul Arts Center

Mahler Festspiele

Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 will be conducted by Andris Nelsons featuring soloists Ying Fang and Bernarda Fink.

Performance Dates: May 13 & 14, 2021

Fabio Luisi leads the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra with soloist Peter Mattei performing Mahler’s Kindertotenlieder and Symphony No. 5.

Performance Date: May 15, 2021

Jakub Hrůša conducts the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks with soloist Gerhild Romberger in Mahler’s Symphony No. 3.

Performance Date: May 17, 2021

Valery Gergiev conducts the Münchner Philharmoniker in Mahler’s Symphony No. 4 and “Das Lied von der Erde.” Soloists include Anna Lucia Richter, Elisabeth Kulman, and Andreas Schager.

Performance Date: May 19, 2021

Daniel Harding and Thomas Hampson team up for Mahler’s Fünf Lieder nach Gedichten von Friedrich Rückert. The program which will include the Wiener Philharmoniker will also include Symphony No. 1.

Performance Date: May 20, 2021

Andris Nelsons conducts Mahler’s Symphony No. 8 with soloists Erin Wall Sopran, Jacquelyn Wagner, Ying Fang, Lioba Braun, Bernarda Fink, Pavel Černoch, Adrian Eröd, and Georg Zeppenfeld

Performance Dates: May 21-24, 2021

Markus Stenz conducts soloists Chen Reiss, Sophie Harmsen, Attilio Glaser, and Michael Volle in Mahler’s Todtenfeier, Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen, and Das klagende Lied. The MDR Sinfonieorchester are also featured in the program.
