Emily D’Angelo, Lucy Crowe, Sophie Bevan, Iestyn Davies & I Fagiolini Headline St. Martin-in-the-Fields Spring 2022 Season

St. Martin-in-the-Fields has announced its Spring 2022 season.

For the purposes of this article, our focus will be on soley vocal performances.

Soprano Natalya Romaniw and pianist Iain Burnside will initiate the new ENO in the Fields program, a collaboration with the English National Opera.

Performance Date: Feb. 12, 2022

I Fagiolini will take on baroque music for multiple choirs from around the world by such composers as Gabrieli, Cereols, de Araújo, Palestrina, E Hooper, and Schütz. Robert Hollingsworth conducts.

Performance Date: March 10, 2022

The BBC Singers take on Purcell’s “Dido and Aeneas.” The performance also features music by Monteverdi and Lotti.

Performance Date: March 18, 2022

As part of the Easter Festival, audiences will hear Tenebrae take on sacred music including pieces by Tallis, Gibbons, and Hildegard of Bingen, among others.

Performance Date: April 9, 2022

The Gesualdo Six and St Martin’s Choirs, under Owain Park, will perform Arvo Pärt’s “Passio.”

Performance Date: April 12, 2022

St Martin’s Voices and the London Mozart Payers will perform Bach’s St. John Passion. Andrew Earis conducts.

Performance Date: April 15, 2022

The final Easter Festival showcase will center on Händel’s “La Resurrezione” featuring Rachel Redmon, Ed Lyon, Callum Thorpe, and the London Händel Orchestra under Laurence Cummings.

Performance Date: April 18, 2022

As part of the April ENO in the Fields, audiences will hear music by Vaughan Williams and Bernstein with soloists and players from the English National Opera.

Performance Date: April 30, 2022

The English Concert will present “Serse” by Händel. Soloists will include Emily D’Angelo, Lucy Crowe, Sophie Bevan, Neil Davies, Daniela Mack, and William Dazely. Harry Bicket conducts.

Performance Date: May 5, 2022 

The Tallis Scholars under Peter Phillips will present Antoine Brumel’s “Earthquake Mass.”

Performance Date: May 12, 2022

I Fagiolini will present “The Waste Land” and music by Byrd, Vaughan Williams, Joanna Marsh, and Shruth Rajasekar, among others.

Performance Date: May 19, 2022

Tenor James Gilchrist will lead a performance of Britten’s Serenade for Tenor, Horns, and Strings. The concert will also feature music by Elgar and Mozart. The London Mozart players perform alongside the tenor.

Performance Date: May 20, 2022

Iestyn Davies and La Nuova Musica take on music by Händel.

Performance Date: May 21, 2022

The Monteverdi Choir performs music by Bach, Schütz, and Schein. John Eliot Gardiner conducts.

Performance Date: June 16, 2022 

The Chineke! Voices, under Joseph McHardy, present music by Vincente Lusitano.

Performance Date: June 18, 2022 

Ex Cathedra presents season music and readings inspired by the summer.

Performance Date: June 25, 2022

Additionally, there will be a series of Lunchtime concerts, including several showcases as part of ENO in the Fields program between January and April.
