Elsa Dreisig, Ioan Hotea & Björn Bürger Lead Staatsoper Hamburg’s ‘Manon’ Live Stream

Staatsoper Hamburg has announced that it will live stream its premiere of Massenet’s opera “Manon” on Jan. 24, 2021.

Due to the German government COVID-19 regulations, the production will be performed without a live public.

The opera will star Ioan Hotea as Chevalier Des Grieux,  as Lescaut, Dimitry Ivashchenko as Count Des Grieux, and Elsa Dreisig in the title role. The cast also includes Daniel Kluge, Alexey Bogdanchikov, Elbenita Kajtazi, Narea Son, Ida Aldrian, Martin Summer, Collin André Schöning, and Hubert Kowalczyk.

Sébastien Rouland will conduct the Philharmonisches Staatsorchester Hamburg in the new production by David Bösch. Set design is by Patrick Bannwart, while Falko Herold was responsible for costumes.

The performance will also feature Chor der Hamburgischen Staatsoper. Eberhard Friedrich is the Chorus Master.

Audiences can check out the performance on the NDR Kultur official website, Facebook page, and Radio channel at 6 p.m CET. The stream will be available for free as VoD between Jan. 27 at 6 p.m. CET until Jan. 29. at 6 p.m. CET.

Elsa Dreisig recently took on the role of Pamina in Mozart’s “Die Zauberflöte” at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, and the role of Dircé in Cherubini’s “Medea” at the Staatsoper unter der Linden. The soprano is scheduled to return to the stage for the production of “La Traviata” at the Staatsoper unter der Linden in May 2021.

Ioan Hotea recently performed the role of Chevalier Des Grieux in Massenet’s “Manon” at the Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden, and the role of Ernesto in Donizetti’s “Don Pasquale” at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden. Hotea is slated to go back onstage for the production of “Il Barbiere di Siviglia” at the Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden in May 2021.

Björn Bürger recently interpreted the title role in Mozart’s “Don Giovanni,” the role of Count Almaviva in “Le Nozze di Figaro” at La Monnaie, and the title role in Rossini’s “Il Barbiere di Siviglia” at the Semperoper Dresden.
