The Lucerne Festival has announced its 2021 summer season.

For this article, we will only concentrate on vocal performances at the Swiss festival.

Riccardo Chailly conducts Gun-Brit Barkmin in a program that includes Mahler and Berg.

Performance Date: August 13, 2021

Riccardo Chailly conducts Elīna Garanča in Mahler’s “Rückert-Lieder.” The program also includes Mahler’s Symphony No. 1 in D major.

Performance Date: August 14, 2021

Cecilia Bartoli joins Les Musiciens du Prince-Monaco and Gianluca Capuano for “An Afternoon at the Opera.”

Performance Date: August 22, 2021

Riccardo Muti and Alice Coote team up with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra for an evening of Britten, Elgar, and Tchaikovsky.

Performance Date: August 23, 2021

Les Arts Florissants and William Christie perform Handel’s “Partenope” with Sophie Daneman directing a semi-staged production. The work features Soloists from the “Jardin des Voix” Class of 2021.

Performance Date: Sept. 3, 2021

Clemens Heil conducts Daniela Argentino, Juliet Fraser, and Charlotte Lorenz in music by Rebecca Saunders.

Performance Date: Sept. 4, 2021

Juan Diego Flórez joins the Sinfonía por el Perú Youth Symphony in a program of opera arias and orchestral works by Rossini, Verdi, Gounod, and Puccini along with Latin-American songs.

Performance Date: Sept. 5, 2021

Jakub Hrůša conducts Zürcher Sing-Akademie  in music by Iris Szeghy, Miroslav Srnka, Aribert Reimann, and György Kurtág.

Performance Date: Sept. 6, 2021

Sir Simon Rattle and Magdalena Kožená perform music by Ondřej Adámek and Mahler.

Performance Date: Sept. 8, 2021

The festival will present “Taschenoper Lübeck” based on Hansel and Gretel.

Performance Date: Sept. 11, 2021

Ivan Fischer conducts the Budapest Festival Orchestra in Verdi’s “Falstaff” with a cast that includes Nicola Alaimo, Tassis Christoyannis, Francesco Demuro, Eva Mei, Sylvia Schwarz, Laura Polverelli, and Yvonne Naef.
