Eleonora Buratto is set to headline a new production of “Madama Butterfly” at the Baden-Baden Festival.
The soprano will perform the lead role alongside the Berlin Philharmonic, conducted by Kirill Petrenko in a new production by Davide Livermore on April 12, 15, and 20, 2025. The production will star Jonathan Tetelman, Teresa Iervolino, and Tassis Christoyannis.
Following the series of performances in Baden-Baden, the same cast will perform the work in concert in Berlin on April 25 and 27.
In a statement, she said, “It is an immense pleasure to announce that I am about to take on Madama Butterfly under the baton of Kirill Petrenko at the helm of the legendary orchestra of which he is chief conductor: the Berliner Philharmoniker. I have worked regularly on Butterfly since making my role debut in 2022 at the New York Metropolitan Opera, followed by a production every year, first at the Opera di Roma, then Opéra Bastille and now at the Baden-Baden Easter Festival (12th, 15th and 20th April, with stage direction by Davide Livermore) and immediately afterwards in Berlin (25th and 27th April in concert form). This means I will have the unique opportunity of singing in this masterpiece in a staged and a concert performance, repeating the similar recent experience of my debut in Tosca: the stage and the concert performance enrich each other thanks to the distinctive characteristics of each.”
