The Dutch National Opera has announced a cast change for its production of “Maria Stuarda.”

The company said that, “Marina Rebeka, who was due to sing the title role in its upcoming production of ‘Maria Stuarda,’ has withdrawn from the production for personal reasons.”

As a result, “Kristina Mkhitaryan, who just performed the role of Liù in the company’s ‘Turandot,’ will take [on] the title role, making her role debut.

Mkhitaryan joins a production conducted by Enrique Mazzola and directed by Jetske Mijnssen. The cast will also star Aigul Akhmetshina, Ismael Jordi, and Aleksei Kulagin.

“Maria Stuarda” will premiere at the Dutch National Opera in Amsterdam on May 6, 2023, and will be performed eight times through May 23.
