Members of the Graduate Vocal Arts Program at Bard College Conservatory of Music will present “neither here nor there,” a virtual concert featuring Asian and Asian-American music, poetry, and stories to explore the Asian and Asian-American experience in the U.S.

The showcase, which is set for Nov. 27, 2020, is curated and features performances by soprano Diana Schwam, countertenor Chuanyuan Liu, and pianist Ryan McCullough.

Composers and poets who will be featured in the program include Tonia Ko, Ke-Chia Chen, Jo Kondo, Tao Lin, Bun-Ching Lam, and Dante De Silva.

“This concert encapsulates the Asian-American experience and features Asian and Asian-American composers. We hope to create a space to question and discover the ambiguities of our identities through story and song,” Schwam, a Filipino-American soprano, stated in a press release. “I’ve felt in limbo my whole life as an Asian-American, not being ‘enough’ of either, and I am so excited to create a space where others who identify in this way can freely engage with our identities.”

“This concert is a celebration,” added Liu, who was born and raised in China. “A celebration of being who you are, whatever that might be.” The concert will feature Asians and Asian-Americans from different professional backgrounds and age groups who have volunteered to share their individual stories. “We want to raise awareness of this unique experience that people rarely talk about, and there is no better way than presenting the concert to reflect our diverse community,” Liu added.

Audiences can watch the performance on “neither here nor there’s” YouTube and Facebook pages. “neither here nor there” will be partnering with Wear Yellow Proudly.
