Opera UnTouched to Present “Opera in Offices”
By Afton MarkayAs part of its community education project, Opera UnTouched will present Menotti’s “The Telephone” in co-working spaces throughout London.
Each performance is 40-minute modern take on Menotti’s opera. Valeria Perboni directs Stephen Whitford in the role of Ben and Grace Watkins as Lucy. Adrian Salinero serves as music director.
Watkins, who is also Opera UnTouched’s Artistic Director said in a press release, “Alongside the main tour, Opera UnTouched is delivering an educational project in the communities where we are performing. We are working with local schools to lead students in creating their own short operas set within their school environment, culminating in a performance for their peers and families. This initiative introduces young people to opera as an accessible and creative art form, whilst empowering them to tell their own stories through music and performance.”
Venues include Hideaway Streatham, Patch Twickenham, Impact Brixton, and Tooting Works. Performances are planned for Oct. 15, 17, 23, and 24.
