The Deutsche Oper Berlin has announced that it will open its doors on June 12.
The company stated via social media that it will open with “Das Rheingold.” The opera will be performed five times in a 90-minute chamber edition by the British composer Jonathan Dove.
The first part of Wagner’s tetralogy will star Derek Welton, Padraic Rowan, Thomas Blondelle, Markus Brück, Andrew Harris, Tobias Kehrer, Annika Schlicht, Flurina Stucki, Judit Kutasi, Elena Tsallagova, Irene Roberts, and Karis Tucker. The orchestra will be reduced to 22 musicians from the orchestra of Deutsche Oper Berlin and will be conducted by Donald Runnicles. Neil Barry Moss will direct the semi-staged production.
Performances will adhere to social distance protocols and will take place on the company’s parking deck.
