The Deutsche Oper Berlin has announced that it will perform the Humperdinck’s opera “Hänsel und Gretel” on Dec. 25, 2012.

The decision by the opera house comes on the heels of a cancelation of all performances of ballet “Jewels” and “Don Quixote” by the Staatsballett Berlin until at least Jan. 2, 2022 due to multiple COVID-19 cases in the ensemble.

The opera stars Meechot Marrero in the role of Gretel, Irene Roberts as Hänsel, Heidi Melton as Gertrud, Samuel Dale Johnson as Peter, Burkhard Ulrich as Hexe und Flurina Stucki as Sand- und Taumännchen. Dominic Limburg conducts.

The Deutsche Oper Berlin is currently performing Verdi’s “Un Ballo in Maschera” with Yusif Eyvazov, Thomas Lehman, Irina Churilova, Judit Kutasi, and Heidi Stober.

The seven-day COVID-19 incidence in Berlin currently stands at 333.6.
