
Detroit Opera Extends Roberto Kalb’s Contract
By Francisco SalazarThe Detroit Opera has announced that Roberto Kalb’s contract will be extended.
The company announced the news via social media stating that Kalb’s contract will be extended four years.
Additionally the company said that aside from his current duties conducting operas and overseeing the Detroit Opera Orchestra and Chorus, he will have an increased role in artistic planning and in implementing the next two curated seasons centering on themes established by Artistic Director Yuval Sharon: “Faith” in the 2026–27 season and “Sustainability” in 2027–28, using opera to lead conversations locally and nationally about critical issues of our time.
Kalb began his tenure in in November 2022 and was expected to end his run on June 30, 2026. The new contract runs from July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2030.
Kalb became the second Music Director in Detroit Opera history after founder and former Artistic Director David DiChiera, who held the position from 1963 through his retirement from the position in 2016.
