Anna Netrebko’s upcoming “Nabucco” performances have sold out in 24 hours.

According to the German press, “the two performances by Netrebko during the May Festival were sold out when they started advance sales on Friday.” Tickets were reported to be over 200 euros.

Netrebko is scheduled to make her role debut as Abigaille in Verdi’s opera “Nabucco” on May 5 and May 7.

The debut has caused an international controversy as Ukrainian performers bowed out of the performances due to the soprano’s invitation to the festival. The Pussy Riot also canceled its performance after finding out that Netrebko would be singing.

Intendant Uwe Eric Laufenberg defended his decision to contract Netrebko and said he believed in the soprano’s statements condemning the war.
