Death of Classical Announces Upcoming ‘Crypt & Catacombs’ Programming

Death of Classical has released the May throughout Sept. programming for the “Crypt & Catacombs” series.

The Miró Quartet perform a program featuring selections from its new album, “Home,” which centers around Caroline Shaw’s “Microfictions [vol. 1].”

Performance Date: May 4, 2024 (Crypt Chapel of Harlem’s Church of the Intercession)

“Sound & Silence” performed by Eleni Katz & Llewellyn Sánchez-Werner features the vocal works of Lila Meretzky, Leonard Bernstein, Aaron Copland, George Gershwin, and more.

Performance Date: May 15, 2024 (Crypt Chapel of Harlem’s Church of the Intercession)

The Green Room Ensemble perform “What Remains,” a program of works by Katherine Balch, Hannah Ishizaki, and Caroline Shaw.

Performance Date: May 17, 2024 (Crypt Chapel of Harlem’s Church of the Intercession)

William Byrd’s “Mass for Four Voices – Agnus Dei,” Monteverdi’s “Lagrime d’amante al sepolcro dell’amata,” and closing with Caroline Shaw’s “Partita for 8 Voices,” is presented by the Fourth Wall Ensemble.

Performance Dates: September 5-7, 2024 (Green-Wood Cemetery)

Gelsey Bell’s opera “mɔɹnɪŋ [morning//mourning]” is performed by the composer. The work is inspired by Alan Weisman’s book “The World Without Us” which explores what would happen to Earth if humans started disappearing. The opera features Gelsey Bell, Aviva Jaye, Brian McCorkle, Mia Pak, and Paul Pinto.

Performance Dates: September 12-14, 2024 (Green-Wood Cemetery)
