Dayton Performing Arts Alliance to Present ‘Messiah’

By David Salazar

Ohio’s Dayton Performing Arts Alliance will present Händel’s “Messiah” on Dec. 13, 2023.

The showcase will feature Dayton’s Opera, Philharmonic, and Chamber Chorus joining forces under conductor Neal Gittleman. Soloists include Adia Evans, Tess Fackelmann, Dylan Davis, and Ben Brady.

“Handel’s ‘Messiah’ is one of my earliest musical memories—or at least the ‘Hallelujah Chorus’ is,”  Gittleman said in an official press statement. “During my childhood years, my mother conducted ‘Hallelujah’ with her Bushwick High School chorus in Brooklyn every December, and it always thrilled me.  Naturally, I think of that every time ‘Hallelujah’ comes around at the end of Part 2 of ‘Messiah.’  I’m also reminded that at least one person in the audience is hearing it for the first time. I want them to be as thrilled as I was all those years ago. ‘Messiah’ is one of the greatest, most inspiring pieces of music ever written, and I look forward to performing it each and every year.”

There will be some holiday-themed activities before the concert, which kicks off at 7:30 p.m. at the Schuster Center.
