By David SalazarCo-librettist David Cote has reached the proposed goal of the crowdfunding campaign for his upcoming dramatic work “Meltdown.”
The composer set out to raise $10,000 to perform the work and, as of this writing, has received $10,163 in support.
The dramatic work for mezzo-soprano and piano trio explores “climate change in the face of sexism in science” and “begins as a lecture that opens up into a psychological landscape, a symbolic ice sheet where the Glaciologist explains exactly what’s at stake.”
Cote will team up with mezzo-soprano Hai-Ting Chinn, who is also the co-librettist on “Meltdown.” The music is by Stefan Weisman. Kelvin Chan directs. “Meltdown” will be presented on Feb. 8, 2025, in partnership with Sparks & Wiry Cries and National Sawdust.
