
Danish National Symphony Orchestra Renews Fabio Luisi as Principal Conductor

Luisi’s contract, which was due to expire in 2029, was renewed for three more years. This announcement comes less than a month before the 10th anniversary of Luisi and the Orchestra’s collaboration. The anniversary will be commemorated during the Orchestra’s 2026-27 season opening concerts on Sept. 3 and 4 at the DR Koncerthuset in Copenhagen. This extension also marks one of the longest-running collaborations between a major European orchestra and its principal conductor.
Over the past decade, Luisi and the Danish National Symphony Orchestra have taken international tours and cultivated a significant recording relationship with Deutsche Grammophon. The orchestra and Luisi have performed in venues such as the Berlin Philharmonie, Tokyo’s Suntory Hall, London’s Royal Albert Hall, and Hamburg’s Elbphilharmonie.
Luisi is also music director of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra and principal conductor of Japan’s NHK Symphony Orchestra. He previously held leadership positions at the Metropolitan Opera, the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, and the Zurich Opera.
