You’ll likely notice that when you come to check out these top five picks from NORTH AMERICA, you’ll usually find just shows in the U.S. But this week, we have made a few selections truly do encapsulate North America.

Pandora – FAWN Chamber Creative, Canada

FAWN Chamber Creative will world premiere this opera-ballet by David James Brock and and such composers as David Storen, Joseph Glaser, and Kit Soden. The work is set for performances on Friday and Saturday.

The Marriage of Figaro – Opera Theatre of Saint Louis

So this is the weekend when one of the most prominent festivals in all of the U.S. kicks off. With a cast that includes Susannah Biller, Monica Dewey, Theo Hoffman, And Aubrey Allicock, Mozart masterpiece is set for a fantastic rejuvenation. Saturday will be the first performance of the run.

Salsipuedes – Palacio de Bellas Artes, Mexico

Daniel Catán’s 70th birthday will be celebrated at the famed hall in Mexico City with a series of performances of the composer’s third opera “Salsipuedes.” The work will feature Angel Macías, Liliana Aguilasocho, Josué Cerón, Mariana Sofía García, Luis Alberto Sánchez, Alejandro Navarrete, Rodrigo Petate, Armando Gama, Alan Pingarrón, Angélica Alejandre and Arisbé De la Barrera.

Salome – Spoleto Festival USA

Last week we talked about how “Salome” isn’t a common sight in the U.S. and recommended a few performances of the opera for weekend binging. For those that missed out on Strauss’ opera in Dayton, Spoleto is offering it up as well, with a showcase on Friday.

Tosca – Washington National Opera

We finish it all with the final performances of “Tosca” at the Washington National Opera, effectively bringing that the company’s season to a close. Riccardo Massi and Keri Alkema star in the lead roles of the famed opera. Alan Held is Scarpia.
