Cutting Room to Feature ‘Mozart’s Don Giovanni: A Rock Opera’
By David SalazarThis summer, New York’s Cutting Room will play host to a production of “Mozart’s Don Giovanni: A Rock Opera.”
The famed opera staple will get new life in a reimagining translated, orchestrated, and directed by Adam B. Levowitz.
“The power of Don Giovanni has always been the story — that hasn’t changed. What I changed is some of what the characters say, and how they reveal themselves,” Levowitz said of his reimagining per an official press release. “My new libretto gives them voices that connect with a 2025 audience, in a way that speaks directly to today’s world. This reimagining creates a genuine American version of the operatic tradition, while preserving Mozart’s undeniable musical genius.”
The rock opera will star Broadway performers such as Ryan Silverman, Richard Coleman, Rachel Zatcoff, Alyssa Giannetti, Felipe Bombonato, Edwin Jhamaal Davis, Sophie Belkin, Kevin Hegmann, and Sean Mannix.
Performances kick off on June 16 and run through August 26, 2025.
