Curtis Opera Theatre to Present Victorian/Steampunk ‘Elixir of Love’

On March 10, 2023, Curtis Opera Theatre will present Donizetti’s bel canto comedy, “The Elixir of Love.”

Held at the Philadelphia Film Center, this production takes inspiration from steampunk and Victorian-era fashion and ingenuity, and comes as Curtis celebrates Women’s History Month by paying tribute to the impact of women in the arts. Sarah Ina Meyers, who has directed at the Metropolitan Opera, will make her debut with the company, with scenic design by Cameron Anderson and costumes by Whitney Lochner.

Conductor Christian Capocaccia leads a cast featuring Joseph Tancredi as Nemorino, Emilie Kealani as Adina, Erik Tofte as Belcore, Evan Gray as Dulcamara, Sam Higgins as Dulcamara’s Assistant, and Dalia Medovnikov as Giannetta.

“The Elixir of Love” will have a second performance on March 12.Curtis Opera Theatre will conclude their 22-23 season in May with Handel’s “Ariodante.”
