By Afton Wooten

CreArtBox will present a new opera-ballet-film “Architecture of a Common Man,” by Guillermo Laporta.

“Architecture of a Common Man” follows a famous photographer’s journey of documenting his own life and his discoveries. Laporta explains in a press release that “Architecture of a Common Man’ aims to challenge societal norms and encourage people to find happiness in being an ordinary person. It explores the relationships between work, family, health, and spirituality and how these aspects can impact one’s pursuit of happiness.”

The cast includes baritone Nathaniel Sullivan, tenor Nicholas Farrauto, and soprano Rebecca Madeira with Josefina Urraca on the piano. Jason Thomas Aylward conducts the chamber orchestra. Peter Cheng choreographs and performs dance sequences alongside Sammy Rivas and John Backstrom, who act in the film segments with cinematographer Matt Harvey capturing the performances on film. Laporta designed the set, light, and projections.

Culture Lab LIC in Queens will house the performances. Three preview workshops will take place March 17 – 19 at 7:30 pm, with the premiere performances on March 24 – 26 at 7:30 pm.
