Correos in Spain Releases Special Stamps to Celebrate Victoria de los Ángeles & Alicia de Larrocha
By David SalazarCorreos in Spain has revealed a new postage stamp to honor two of the greatest artists of recent history.
The two stamps pay homage to soprano Victoria de los Ángeles and pianist Alicia de Larrocha and the centenary of their respective births. Both artists were born in 1923 and met in 1941 when de los Ángeles won the Radio Barcelona prize and chose de Larrocha to be the accompanist on the album recording. The two became fast friends and collaborators for many years thereafter.
The official stamp reveal was made at Sant Pau Recinte Modernista in Barcelona. The ceremony also featured a recital of songs by Granados featuring soprano Mercedes Gancedo and pianist Quimey Urquiaga. Featured at the presentation were Alicia Torra de Larrocha of the commission for Centenario Alicia de Larroach; Helena Mora of the Fundación Victoria de los Ángeles; Marc Busquets of the commission for Año Victoria de los Ángeles; Sonnia L. Rivas-Caballero, the director of Rocaviva Eventos; and Nuria Lera, director of Filatelia y Relaciones Institucionales de Correos.
“This stamp is a beautiful tribute that unites two friends, women, great artists, Victoria de los Ángeles and Alicia de Larrocha, in a symbol manner,” said Helena Mora, president of the Fundación Victoria de los Ángeles in an official press release.
In sum, 117,000 stamps will be released with each having a value of 2.17€.
