Opéra de Nice Côte d’Azur has announced its 2023-24 season.

First up is the Festival Hip Hop’era.

Performance Date: Sept. 2, 2023 

Next up is a Préludes concerts which features excerpts from the upcoming season. The performance is led by Léo Warynski.

Performance Date: Sept. 9, 2023 

The first opera performance will be “Lakmé.” Directed by Lauent Pelly and conducted by Jacques Lacombe, the opera will star Kathryn Lewek, Thomas Bettinger, Majdouline Zerari, and Jean-Luc Ballestra, among others.

Performance Dates: Sept. 29 – Oct. 3, 2023

There will be an operetta festival led by conductor Alice Meregaglia and starring tenor François Almuzara and soprano Perrine Cabassud.

Performance Date: Nov. 10, 2023

The company will then present Frank Zappa’s “200 Motels – The Suites.” The work will star Lionel Peintre, Emily-Rose Bry, Pauline Descamps, Dominque Gould, and Mark Van Arsdale, among others. Léo Warynski conducts a production directed by Antoine Gindt.

Performance Date: Dec. 1 & 2, 2023

Vanessa Goikoetxea, Amadi Lagha, Vazgen Gazaryan, and Eugénie Joneau star in “Rusalka.” Elena Schwarz conducts a production by Jean-Philippe Clarac and Olivier Deloueil.

Performance Date: Jan 26 – 30, 2024

Ermonela Jaho will give a concert alongside the Orchestre Philharmonique de Nice and conductor Daniele Callegari. The showcase will feature music by Puccini.

Performance Date: Feb. 9, 2024

Laurent Petitgirard conducts a production of “Guru.” The opera stars Armando Nogeura, Sonia Petrovna, Anaïs Constans, Frédéric Diquero, Nika Guliashvili, and Marie-Ange Todorovitch. Muriel Mayette-Holtz directs.

Performance Date: Feb. 20 -24, 2024

Corinne Winters stars in “Madama Butterfly.” She is joined by Manuela Custer, Antonio Corianò, and Angel Odena. Daniele Callegari conducts the production directed by Daniel Benoin.

Performance Date: March 6 – 12, 2024

“La Petite Sirène” will be conducted by Jane Latron and directed by Bérénice Collet.

Performance Date: March 9 & 12, 2024

Vivaldi’s “L’Olympiade des Olympiades” will star Fernando Escalona, Rémy Brès-Feuillet, Mariène Assayag, Ana-Maria Labin, Margherita Maria Saia, Gilen Goicoechea, and Christian Senn. Jean-Christophe Spinosi conducts a production directed by Eric Oberdorff.

Performance Date: April 30 – May 4, 2024

The double bill of “Le Rossignol” and “Les Mamelles de Tirésias” will be conducted by Lucie Leguay and directed by Olivier Py. The operas star Sahy Ratia, Rocío Pérez, Chantal Santon Jeffrey, and Matthieu Lécroart, among others.

Performance Date: May 28 – June 1, 2024

“Sindbad” will be conducted by Howard Moody and directed by Benoît Bénichou.

Performance Date: June 22 – 25, 2024

Concerts & Chamber Music

Soprano Liesel Jürgens and mezzo-soprano Cristina Greco will perform alongside pianist Thibaud Epp. The recital features works by Schumann, Brahms, Schubert, Mendelssohn, Mahler, and Strauss.

Performance Date: Oct. 9, 2023

Mezzo-soprano Agne Čepaitytė will perform alongside pianist Thibaud Epp and clarinettist Stasys Makštutis in a concert entitled “Voyage en Lituanie.”

Performance Date: Oct. 23, 2023

Soprano Liesel Jürgens will perform in recital alongside Michel Capolongo in a concert featuring music by Strozzi, berio, Galupi, Puccini, Scelsi, and Rossini, among others.

Performance Date: June 3, 2024 

Festival de Musique Sacrée

Les Tambours du Bronx and the Chœur Philarmonique de Nice will present “Requiem pour l’humanité” in its world premiere. Miguel Campos Neto conducts.

Performance Date: June 29, 2024

Vincent Montelli will lead a performance of Marcello Panni’s “Missa Brevis.

Performance Date: June 30, 2024 

Finally, Daniele Callegari will conduct Puccini’s “Messa di Gloria” with tenor Julien Dran and baritone Jérôme Boutillier.

Performance Date: July 5, 2024 

There will be additional family concerts and other events to present the different operas throughout the season. There will also be a Wagner conference.
