Concurso Internacional de Canto Alfredo Kraus Announces 2021 Winners

Ukrainian soprano Olga Syniakova has won the VIII edition of the Concurso Internacional de Canto Alfredo Kraus.

The win is the latest competition the soprano has participated in following a second-place win at 58 Concurso Internacional de Canto Tenor Francisco Viñas as well as two wins at the 27ème Concours international de chant de Clermont-Ferrand.

Aside from Syniakova, Portuguese soprano Regina Freire won second prize while third prize went to soprano Susana Vieira.

The Spanish soprano Teresa Villena won the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria City Hall prize for the best Spanish singer

The final gala performance of the VIII CICAK was given by 10 singers chosen from the 124 applicants from 28 countries. The finalists performed alongside the Gran Canaria Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by maestro Óliver Díaz. In addition to the four prize winners, the other finalists were Germán Alcántara (baritone / Argentina), James Kim (tenor / South Korea), John Lim (bass / South Korea), Yulia Merkudinova (soprano / Ukraine), Cecília Rodrigues (soprano / Portugal), and Ihor Voievodin (bass-baritone / Ukraine).

This year the competition saw a jury made up by Rosa Kraus Ley, Francisco, Araiza, Daniel Bianco, Elisabete Matos, Alessandro Galoppini, Celestino Varela, Luca Ioseffini, and Ulises Jaen.
