Concert Halls & Bars Could Remain Closed For 18 Months in Colombia

By Francisco Salazar

Colombian President Ivan Duque has stated that concert halls, bars, and stadiums could remain closed for another 18 months due to the coronavirus pandemic.

In a press conference, the president stressed that while quarantine will end on April 27, social gatherings will still be prohibited with limitations continuing into the immediate future until there is a proper vaccine and treatment.

The Mayors and Governors in Colombia have also sided with continuing strict lockdowns until the situation improves and to prevent the collapse of the country’s healthcare system.

Currently the Teatro Mayor and Teatro Colón in Bogota are closed until May 30, though currently they are currently scheduled to perform a number of concerts in June. Additionally, the Opéra de Colombia is still scheduled to present productions of “Fidelio” and “L’Elisir d’Amore” in August and September. However, the future of these performances remains in doubt until a clear strategy for reopening is announced.

Colombia currently has 3,792 confirmed coronavirus cases and 179 confirmed deaths.
