The Cleveland Orchestra has announced that it will not perform for live audiences in January or February due to ongoing concerns over the spread of COVID-19.

“Our guiding principal throughout the Covid-19 pandemic is the health and safety of The Cleveland Orchestra’s musicians, staff, guests and volunteers,” said André Gremillet, President & CEO of The Cleveland Orchestra, in a press release. “As the number of cases has increased dramatically in Ohio and will likely continue to do so in early 2021, we’ve made the decision to postpone our performances at Severance Hall in January and February.

The company is still targeting live performances for audiences in March, but will shift its focus to its digital “In Focus” series in the meantime.

First up will be the company’s 38^th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Concert slated for Jan. 14, 2020. Audiences will be able to check out the concert virtual via Adella.

The showcase will feature bass-baritone Ryan Speedo Green, narrator James Pickens, Jr., and the Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Chorus. Conductor Franz Welser-Möst will lead the performance which will feature music by Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Walker, Verdi, Respighi, and Johnson, among others.
